Sarah Carter's on the case.

There certainly has been no shortage of superpowered nutbars troubling the young not-yet-caped Clark Kent on Smallville. But one of those characters - a kryptonite-created teleporter - became a cult favourite among the show's ardent fans. Winnippegger Sarah Carter, who portrayed the troubled Alicia Baker on three episodes of Smallville, thinks she udnerstands Alicia's appeal. "I never played her as crazy. The things she did were often crazy, but she sincerely loved Clark. I had real compassion for her loneliness." This fall Carter has scored a regular gig on Shark, one of the new TV season's most anticipated dramas. The show is about a slick defence attorney who switched sides after a crisis of conscience and decides to head up a team of young prosecutors. Carter is keeping awfully good company: the cast is headed by two-time Emmy winner James Woods, the show is produced by Oscar winner Brian Grazer and the pilot episodes was directed by Spike Lee. While the other prosecutors flinch under the acerbic tutelage of Sebastian Stark (Woods), Carter's character, Medline Poe, sees it as the opportunity of a lifetime. "She has the highest conviction rate in the offices, and she admires Stark. She wants to learn from her idol."
