Summary
It's a busy night at the Talon coffee shop where everyone seems to be partying except for Clark who's studying trig. Two friendly girls from school invite Clark over to a friend's house, but he turns them both down, by saying he's got too much work to do. Clark's mom Martha serves him some more coffee, encouraging him to ask one of those girls out but Clark is convinced it's not worth the effort because his secret would ruin the relationship anyway. But Clark's mom is convinced that there's someone out there that's right for him. Meanwhile, at Belle Reve, Alicia Baker is finally being released from her cell. Her doctor says she's been cured.
Clark goes home that evening and heads straight to the barn to drop off his books. He's suddenly surprised by Alicia who asks him what he's doing home alone on a Saturday night. He's a bit surprised to see her, and she's a bit surprised he remembered her name. He brings up the fact that she tried to kill him and Lana, but Alicia tells him that the doctors told her she's cured. She shows him the lead bracelet that she wears to control her from using her powers now. Alicia apologizes for everything she's done to Clark, insisting that he was the last person she ever wanted to hurt. Alicia tells Clark that he gave her hope, just knowing that someone out there was like her gave her hope in her darkest moments. She leaves the barn, leaving Clark to his thoughts.
The next day Clark tells his parents about Alicia and her special bracelet. His parents are a shocked that Alicia was let out of Belle Rive, but Clark thinks that maybe Alicia really is better, but Martha is worried about what if Alicia ISN'T better. At school that day, Clark has Chloe check up on Alicia's file from Belle Reve and it confirms what Alicia told Clark; that she really is cured. This news makes Clark a very happy man.
Lana finds Jason on his college campus, demanding to know what happened with their relationship. Jason tells Lana that he doesn't think she's ready for a certain kind of relationship. He walks off abruptly, leaving Lana staring after him.
Later on, Alicia and Clark go skating at the local ice rink. Alicia can skate quite well, but it's quite obvious that Clark seems to lack that skill. Alicia is really happy that Clark called her to go out and she tells him that it doesn't feel like it was really her who did all those crazy things to him and Lana. Clark says that maybe it wasn't her, and this is the real her with him now, causing Alicia to smile happily. Suddenly Clark trips on the ice, toppling them both over. They laugh and are about to kiss when suddenly Alicia spots her doctor, McBride, watching from a corner of the rink. Clark heads off the ice to get some hot chocolate while Alicia tries to find her doctor. She asks him what he's doing there and he tells her that he's checking up on her, and that associating with Clark is not allowed, particularly since he was the object of her obsession. The creepy doctor says that maybe they should have more psychiatric sessions outside the hospital. He threatens her by saying he could put her back in Belle Reve. The doctor leaves and Alicia joins Clark rinkside. Clark asks her what she wants to do next, and Alicia says she wants to go to California. At first Clark thinks she's joking, but she's not; she wants to get away from Smallville and go somewhere no one knows her or what she did, and above all, she wants Clark to come with her. Clark wants to be with her, but he can't leave. Abruptly, Alicia gets up and leaves, abandoning Clark at the rink. Alicia rushes over to the Torch office where she hunts for a Smallville High class ring. She smashes the ring to pieces with a paperweight, releasing the red kryptonite from the ring.
At the Luthor Mansion, Lionel interrupts Lex during his fencing lesson. Lionel insists that a miracle happened to him and he must use his life for a greater purpose now. Lex is still leery of his father though, despite Lionel's desires to create a better world.
Alicia surprises Clark in his barn again. She tells him how her psychiatrist McBridge threatened to send her back to Belle Reve if she continued to see Clark. She thinks that McBride wants to be with her and released her because he thought he could be with her that way. She won't go to the review board in case they revoke her probation. She asks Clark to come with her again, her bags are in the car and she's ready to leave Smallville. When he turns her down, she pulls out a necklace she made out of red kryptonite, telling him she made it for him while she was in Belle Reve. She puts it on him and immediately the red kryptonite infects Clark's system.
At the Torch, Lana finds Chloe working late. Lana tells Chloe that she thinks she finally figured out why Jason broke up with her, and it's regarding sex. Chloe is surprised to find out that Lana is still a virgin. Lana is beginning to think that she's ready for it. Chloe tells her that she shouldn't do it just because Jason wants to and then tells her about her first time, that she doesn't regret it, but that it just wasn't special like she expected it to be.
Meanwhile in the Kent's barn, Alicia and Clark are kissing heavily on the couch. Alicia stops him, telling him that she wants this to last forever and then tells him that she's a virgin, and Clark confirms that he is as well. Clark tells her that she's the most beautiful girl he's ever met and he wants her to be his wife. Incredulous, Alicia happily accepts Clark's proposal of getting married in Las Vegas tonight. Clark rips off Alicia's lead bracelet and she teleports them out of Clark's barn and out to Vegas were they find themselves at a chapel. The ecstatic couple exchange vows and rush out to their wedding night suite. Alicia spins around like mad and jumps up and down on the bed, claiming she's Mrs. Clark Kent.
Meanwhile back in Smallville, Lana is lighting hundreds of candles in her apartment while wearing nothing but a man's dress shirt. Jason arrives at the apartment; he got Lana's message and hurried over. Lana asks Jason to look her in the eyes and tell her he doesn't love her. When he can't do that, she begins to unbutton her shirt. But Jason stops her before she can remove it saying that this can't happen. Lana doesn't understand, because she thought he broke up with her because she wouldn't sleep with him. Jason then fesses up; he thinks they didn't meet by accident and that they met because of his mother. Jason didn't want his mother to use him to get to Lana so he broke up with her. But Lana says that it still doesn't change the way she feels about him.
Back in Vegas, Alicia and Clark are busy undressing each other playfully. Alicia teases Clark as he chases her around the room. She teleports out from under him and reappears on the heart-shaped bed where he tackles her. She tells him that she loves him so much and that she wants all of him. She removes the red kryptonite necklace and the real Clark wakes up. Clark, realizing what happened, backs away from Alicia angrily. Alicia tries to explain that she doesn't think the red kryptonite was a drug, but that it just releases clark from his inhibitions. But Clark is livid, and Alicia realizes that maybe she made a mistake.
Back in Smallville, Clark is accosted by McBride in his barn. McBride says that he made Alicia whole again in Belle Reve and Clark had to go and ruin that. McBride pulls out a gun, intent on killing Clark and claiming that Clark forced Alicia to marry him. Alicia teleports in behind McBride. She apologizes to Clark again, telling him that when she's with him she feels normal. An angry McBride decides to take action and fires the gun at Clark. Alicia teleports in front of Clark and is struck by the incoming bullet. Upset, Clark asks why Alicia took the bullet, and she tells him it's because she said she'd always protect his secret.
Clark takes Alicia to the hospital where she's operated on. Clark tells Alicia that McBride is being questioned for trying to kill one of his patients. Alicia tries to explain that she didn't know how to keep the one good thing, Clark, in her life. Clark says he wanted her with or without the red kryptonite. Alicia picks up on the past tense that Clark uses, realizing that what they had is over. Clark leaves the hospital room, leaving behind Alicia's broken lead bracelet.
At the Luthor mansion, Lex pokes fun at his "messiah" father, still convinced that Lionel is putting on an act. However, Lex tells his father he can stay in the guest house.
At the Kent farm, Martha is supremely upset with Clark. She thought she'd raised him better than that: Better than running off with a girl he barely knows and getting married, even though it wasn't legal. Clark tells his mom that there's a part of him that never feels freer than when he's with Alicia. Alicia makes him feel special and normal at the same time.
Shortly after, Alicia, released from the hospital with a sling on her arm and the lead bracelet on her wrist, finds Clark in his barn again. She thanks Clark for helping to make her a better person. She realizes they can never be together after what she did to him but it doesn't change how she feels and that as long as she lives she'll never reveal his secret. She tells him she loves him and walks out. She doesn't get too far before Clark stops her. A sobbing Alicia leans against Clark for support. He holds her close as she cries.
